Antioxidants, say hello to Free Radicals. Free Radicals, say goodbye, you’re leaving this party!
Adios. Ciao. Sayonara. Auf wiedersehen. Say it in any language you like, when antioxidants arrive at the party free radicals start looking for the door. But what is an antioxidant and why is it good for me, I hear you say? Molassity’s Pomegranate molasses is crammed full of antioxidants called polyphenols (Polly-Feh-Nolls), a kind of antidote to the accumulation of free radicals. Free radicals are atoms with unpaired electrons, trying desperately to bind to any other atom in your body–talk about needy! One of the obvious benefits of polyphenols is their free radical neutralizing properties, as they circulate through the body they help to prevent or delay cell damage from free radicals. Although the body does a pretty amazing job of eliminating free radicals on its own, things like environmental pollutants, smoking, and even stress can turn your body into a free radical playground. So, when an overload of free radicals in the body cannot be gradually depleted, their build up starts to cause oxidative stress. It’s helpful to think of antioxidants as the lifeguards at the body’s swimming pool. It’s their job to throw out the naughty kids who are messing things up for everyone else and making the pool an unhealthy environment. The little scamps.
